Hyperscalers Convergence Africa
Building a Digital Africa: Connectivities, Collaborations, and Convergence.
As Africa rapidly embraces digital technology, strengthening resilient connectivity has become a top priority. Expanding high-speed internet to underserved areas and deploying robust digital infrastructure are critical steps to bridging the existing digital divide, unlocking economic potential, and promoting social inclusion. As we stated in our first edition

“Subsea cables carry data at breakneck speeds, but populations struggle with patchy last-mile connections. ISPs and Towercos duplicate fiber to homes, but data center capacity lags behind, throttling the potential of cloud computing. Space-based internet beams down, but rural communities remain in digital darkness due to cost, lack of inclusive infrastructure, and literacy barriers. This fragmented approach leads to inefficient resource allocation, connectivity bottlenecks, and stunted growth of digital ecosystems, with the proverbial too much water and none to drink.
The answer lies in convergence—harmonizing the diverse instruments of digital infrastructure into a cohesive symphony.
This convergence aims to empower millions—spanning rural and urban regions—to actively participate in and benefit from Africa’s digital economy. This foundation supports innovation, creating opportunities for more people to access essential services and improving quality of life.
This progress requires purposeful action: collaboration and convergence are essential to building a unified digital ecosystem across Africa. A coalition of stakeholders, including governments, infrastructure operators (spanning towers, terrestrial, submarine, satellite, data centers, and cloud), civil society, technology firms, development organizations, venture capitalists, investors, and equipment manufacturers, must come together to align on shared digital goals. Together, these stakeholders can chart a collective digital future for Africa, working to ensure that the continent’s digital transformation is inclusive, efficient, and wide-reaching.
The convergence of diverse resources, expertise, and technologies has enabled cohesive digital networks that drive economic growth and foster intra-African trade. Now, the continent needs a convergence of people, ideas, and investments working toward Africa’s vision of interconnected economies and communities. Here, digital tools and solutions act as bridges to global networks, enhancing Africa’s competitive edge and fueling sustainable, inclusive growth.
Hyperscalers Convergence Africa brings together Africa’s digital decision-makers and key enablers for inclusive dialogue and strategic partnerships, aimed at developing innovative, sustainable solutions to overcome infrastructural barriers hindering a fully connected digital economy.
