Dotun Daniel Adekunle is the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology Officer of OPay Nigeria, where he leads the company’s operational strategy, technology architecture and product innovation. He plays a central role in scaling the infrastructure that supports OPay’s digital payments ecosystem, which processes millions of transactions daily across Nigeria. Recent company disclosures credit its technology platform with transaction success rates of about 99.9% and processing times of under one second.

Adekunle has close to two decades of experience spanning payments, engineering and financial technology. He joined OPay in 2018 as an Engineering Manager and subsequently held senior roles including Director of Payment Integration, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. He later served as a Senior Vice President at Flutterwave before returning to OPay, where he now combines the COO and CTO roles, overseeing both daily operations and technology strategy.

Beyond payments infrastructure, Adekunle has increasingly advocated for the next stage of Africa’s fintech development to focus on intelligence, infrastructure and measurable financial outcomes rather than transaction volumes alone. At the 2026 BusinessDay Fintech Summit, he argued that the industry had largely solved basic payments access and should now use data, technology and intelligent systems to help users make better financial decisions and improve their financial health.
