Scaling Africa's Digital Future:

Innovation, Infrastructure, & Investment for 2025

Market Brief Keynote:

Guy Zibi

Managing Partner, Xalam Analytics

Overview:

Over the past year, the scale of ambition in technology and infrastructure has skyrocketed globally, with investments growing from $10 billion compute clusters to trillion-dollar ecosystems. As AI spending accelerates, total AI-related investments are projected to exceed $1 trillion annually by 2027, driving massive demand for GPUs, data centers, and power infrastructure.

Behind the scenes, a fierce race is underway to secure the resources - power contracts, voltage transformers, and GPUs - needed to support this unprecedented industrial mobilization. Africa, despite its infrastructure challenges, is positioning itself as a critical player in this transformation through a data center and connectivity boom.

Since 2022, Africa has added 25 new carrier-neutral data centers, with another 15 expected to launch in the coming years, doubling its data center capacity by 2030. On the connectivity front, Africa's international bandwidth growth outpaced that of Asia and Latin America. However, the continent’s supplied capacity of less than 50 TBPS remains a fraction of the design capacity of its 33 subsea cables, which exceed 800 TBPS. Constraints in first-mile, middle-mile, and last-mile connectivity continue to throttle access, but the continent's infrastructure expansion promises to bridge digital divides and support AI-driven progress. The Africa Hyperscalers Digital Infrastructure Outlook 2025 webinar offers an in-depth analysis of the continent's rapidly evolving digital infrastructure landscape. As Africa experiences a surge in demand for data center services and cloud technologies, underpinned by growing connectivity and an evolving digital economy, this session will provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of digital infrastructure, foundational growth drivers, emerging trends, and the challenges and opportunities anticipated in the year ahead.

Keynote Presentation:
Guy Zibi, Founder and Principal of Xalam Analytics, will deliver a market brief focusing on digital infrastructure across Africa. His presentation will include detailed regional and country-specific analyses, key trends in cloud adoption and connectivity, and projections for the industry in 2025.

Panel Discussion:
Following the keynote, a panel comprising key stakeholders from various sectorsincluding development finance institutions, connectivity providers, data center operators, and policymakers will explore among others, themes that include investment strategies for digital infrastructure projects, innovations and advancements in connectivity solutions, development and expansion of data centers across the continent and policy frameworks and regulatory considerations impacting the digital infrastructure ecosystem.
